Palisades Computer Repair warranty regarding viruses

The 30-day Windows OS warranty does not cover virus re-infection if Windows was reinstalled.

Understand that computer viruses live in memory (example - on a hard drive). When you turn on your computer, viruses spring into action when instructions are given from the Windows registry or from the boot sector of the hard drive. In very rare cases, rudimentary viruses can live in the BIOS memory chip, but for the most part viruses do not live in the BIOS, and the BIOS is reset to factory default by simply reseating the CMOS battery.

So when performing a Windows reinstall, PCR will zero wipe the hard drive, wiping out any virus that may lurk in the boot sector of the hard drive, flash (reset) the BIOS, and the Windows registry is rebuilt, thus erasing any instructions to start up any virus.

PCR will also install a real time antivirus program such as FREE Microsoft Security Essentials. Understand that antivirus programs are ALL about 95% effective at blocking viruses. Just as important as it is to have antivirus software, you need to know what to look out for. Please read up on how to avoid virus infections.

You may ask, what if I need you to back up may personal data (music, movies, documents, etc)? Can a virus hide amongst this data backup? PCR will scan this data for viruses, but with the Windows registry built from scratch there would be NO instructions to start such a virus anyway. Even if viruses were to evade virus scan detection, they would merely exist as benign, inactive files.

AGAIN, please read up on how to avoid virus infections.
